Chopping Onions
Cut off onion's ends in order to make slicing and chopping easier. Let is stand on either end and then slice onion into half, from top to bottom.
Place half with cut side downwards. Then cut horizontally 1/4 inch thick slices, without cutting through to other end.
Slice onion again, but this time vertically into 1/4 inch slices.

Sautéing Onions

The Right Way:
In a nonstick pot or frying pan, place chopped onion and 1 tablespoon oil. Sauté over low - medium heat for 7 - 10 minutes until wilted but not browned, as in the right side of the frying pan.
The Wronge Way:
In a nonstick pot or frying pan, place chopped onion and 1 tablespoon oil. Sauté over high heat for 2- 3 minutes. Onion pieces will begin to brown (blacken) within only 2 - 3 minutes, as in the left side of the frying pan. When onions brown they taste awful.
